Dinsdale Petch North Devon

Dinsdale Petch was born in North Devon and raised in a family with a long history of blacksmiths and foundrymen. Over the last 30 years he has honed his skills in all aspects of metal craft and carved out an interesting and creative career. Truly making it his own.

After a meeting with a travelling blacksmith, aged 18, he knew this was the path for him. He then set up his own small forge on his family’s farm. Starting to research and develop historic practices including skills and making tools, weathervanes, fire irons and inventing gadgets.

Metalware Restoration

The next stage in Dinsdale’s training took place with Dave Bray in antique metalware restoration. This training included the restoration of copper, silver, pewter, lead, and Ironwork. He also learnt the dying art of restoring antique horn, tortoiseshell, and ivory.

After Dave’s retirement, Dinsdale continued with the business of high quality antique metalware restoration for a range of customers including private clients, antique dealers, museums and historic building conservators. Dinsdale relishes this restoration work, lovingly restoring historic items back to their former glory.

Local Foundry Devon

The desire to be able to cast missing pieces of metalware for restoration work led Dinsdale to build his own workshop, studio & foundry in the grounds of his home. Every stage of the casting process is done from here. Design, mould making, wax work, casting through to high quality finishing.
